Hardmode: Daily Quotes for iOS — last updated 18 September 2026.

The short version

Hardmode has no accounts, no sign-up and no login. What you write, choose and save stays on your device. We do not sell data, we do not show ads, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

Two things do leave your device, and neither is tied to who you are: the purchase information needed to unlock and restore what you bought, and an anonymous count of which screens were reached and which buttons were pressed. Both are described below.

What stays on your device

Your answers during onboarding, your chosen tone and topics, your favourites, your streak, your stats card, your reminder times and your widget settings are stored locally on your iPhone (in the app’s own storage, UserDefaults, and in a container shared with the Hardmode widget). We cannot read any of it.

Deleting the app deletes this data. We have no copy of it and cannot restore it.

Purchases

Hardmode offers an auto-renewable subscription and a one-time lifetime purchase. All payments are processed by Apple; we never see or receive your card details, your billing address or your Apple Account credentials.

To unlock your purchase on your device and to restore it when you reinstall the app or change phone, we use RevenueCat, Inc. as our subscription provider. RevenueCat receives:

This data is used only to tell the app whether you have an active purchase, and to let you restore it. RevenueCat acts as our processor. Their privacy policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy

Anonymous measurement

To know whether the app is any good — how many people finish setting it up, where they stop, whether the widget gets installed — we use TelemetryDeck GmbH as our analytics provider. It acts as our processor, and it is not an advertising company.

What the app sends is a short, fixed list of event names, decided in advance in our source code. There is no free-text field anywhere in it. For example: the app was opened, an onboarding screen was reached (by its screen number, such as A3.6), the notification permission was granted or refused, the subscription screen was shown or closed, a purchase started or failed, a widget was installed, a quote was liked or skipped.

Alongside these, TelemetryDeck receives an anonymous identifier derived on your device so that two installations can be told apart, and the technical context its software attaches to every event: the app version, the operating system and device model, your language, region and time zone, your screen size, your text-size and display-accessibility settings, and counters such as how many separate days you have opened the app. None of this is chosen or typed by you, and none of it names you.

What is never sent: your first name or any other answer you typed or picked during onboarding, except one — which platform you said you found us on, chosen from a fixed list. Not your age, your mood, your goal or your topics. Never the text of a quote or which quote it was. Never your reminder times, your streak, your stats card, your favourites or your notes. No email address, no account, no advertising identifier, no location.

We cannot use any of this to identify you, to contact you, or to single out your device, and we do not combine it with data from other companies. TelemetryDeck’s privacy policy: https://telemetrydeck.com/privacy/

Notifications

Reminders are local notifications, scheduled by the app on your device at the times you choose. They are not sent from a server, and we do not know whether you received, opened or ignored them. You can turn them off at any time in iOS Settings. The same is true of the Live Activity shown on your Lock Screen during a limited-time offer: it is started by the app on your device, not by a server.

What we do not do

Apple’s own data

Apple provides us with aggregate, anonymous statistics about downloads, sales and crashes through App Store Connect. These reports are counts. They do not identify you, and we cannot link them to any individual.

Children

Hardmode is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any personal data from them. There is nothing to collect: the app has no accounts, and the only things that leave the device are the purchase information and the anonymous measurement described above, neither of which identifies anyone.

Your rights

Because the app holds no personal data about you on our side, there is generally nothing for us to export or erase. If you believe we hold data relating to you, or if you want your purchase records deleted, write to us at the address below and we will answer within thirty days. You can also delete everything the app holds by deleting the app.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the lawful basis for processing the purchase information above is the performance of our contract with you; for the anonymous measurement, it is our legitimate interest in knowing whether the app works, which we balance by collecting no identifying data at all. If you are in California, we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version is published at this address with a new date. Material changes will also be announced in the app.
